Before getting started:

Using an IT-managed workstation (Linux, Mac or Windows) is very highly recommended. Keep a notebook and a pen/pencil handy to make notes.
If using a personal computer, researchers will need to make sure that they have access to the Terminal application in Linux/Mac or the Secure Shell application in Windows. Note that certain commands/workflows will break if the researcher's username in their personal Linux/Mac workstation differs from that of their Michigan Tech ISO username.
When using Linux/Mac (either IT-managed or personally owned), the default login shell needs to be /bin/bash. Researchers may verify this by running the command, echo ${SHELL}, in a Terminal. If the default shell in an IT-managed workstation is other than /bin/bash, contact it-help@mtu.edu and before proceeding ahead.
Clicking the True (or Yes) button at the end of each task without actually completing it is an act of academic dishonesty and will be reported as such to the Office of Academic and Community Conduct.
Leaving comments within Canvas is not the preferred way to seek help and/or provide feedback. Instead, contact Dr. Gowtham (g@mtu.edu) and schedule a meeting. He'd be happy to work with the researchers if they encounter difficulties. Including HPC 101: and a brief description of the issue/problem in the subject line of such emails will expedite time to response and resolution.
