Supplemental Resource: Webinar
Online learning can be a text-heavy, solitary experience for students, but a few well-placed videos can make learners feel like you are in the online classroom with them. Videos also remind students that you are a real person, not a computer. Students who can see and hear their online instructors often feel more connected and more confident; they feel that they know and understand the person teaching the course, which builds trust. Not surprisingly, students who trust their instructor are more willing to participate and take risks in their learning. Video is a powerful tool with big payoffs!
Despite the potential, many online instructors are camera shy! We shy away because we believe that creating quality video will be labor intensive. It doesn't have to be, though! Depending on your experience with screencasting and video editing software, this self-paced tutorial will take you between 5-10 hours, but the result will be a terrific video you can use in your course!
